Prince Harry to turn 40 at a low-key affair in California
By Kaki Olsen
Since stepping back from royal roles, Prince Harry has crafted a quite different lifestyle for himself and his family than what was expected in England. Case in point, his upcoming 40th birthday.
Somewhere in-between
The second son of King Charles III and Princess Diana has had a busy summer. In mid-August, he and his wife Meghan were to be found touring Colombia on a four-day trip to the South American country. They met with leaders and visited schools, but also attended performances at the National Centre for the Arts in Bogota.
Later that month, he returned to the UK to attend his uncle's funeral in Norfolk. While Prince William was also in attendance to pay his respects to Lord Robert Fellowes, the brothers did not seem to interact with each other.
One week after his birthday, Harry will travel to New York to speak at the Clinton Global Initiative in New York City. The annual meeting's theme, "What's Working" is directed towards an "effort to shine a spotlight on potential solutions and effective aid in a tumultuous period marked by war increased income inequality and food insecurity." Harry's speech will "address his nonprofit's collaboration with the World Health Organization and others to end violence against children an issue he and his wife Meghan outlined on a recent trip to Colombia." He will also be supporting The Diana Award during his trip to Manhattan
Plans for the big day
With such high-profile plans for before and after his milestone birthday, what will he be doing on September 15? According to Us Weekly magazine, he will be the host of a party at his Montecito, California home. This private affair is reflective of his "small [group] of close friends" and the life he has made with his wife and two children, Archie and Lillibet.
"Following the low-key affair, Harry will head out on a mountain getaway with some of his closest pals," says the article. He has been known to travel for both enjoyment and a cause, such as when he traveled 200 miles to the South Pole in support of the charity Walking with the Wounded. Taking time for himself in the outdoors seems a wonderful way to self-care before he fulfills commitments away from home.
We hope Prince Harry has the happiest of birthdays with his friends and family.
