Since early this year, many eyes have been on one particular member of the Royal Family: Princess Catherine. Following an apparent planned surgery and recovery, she announced that she was diagnosed with cancer and undergoing preventative chemotherapy. Her first public appearance since that announcement was at Trooping the Colour in June.

Taking the Court

Princess Catherine is a royal patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and as such, she is traditionally the one with the joyful opportunity to present the trophies to the winners of the men's and women's championships. There has been a question as to whether her health would permit her to attend the finals this weekend. All England Club chair Debbie Jevans had this to say in Telegraph Sport:

"We’re hopeful that the Princess of Wales will be able to present the trophies as the Club’s patron, but her health and recovery is the priority."

These well wishes from the president have paid off. Kensington Palace has now confirmed that while she was unable to attend the Women's Single final on Saturday, the Princess will be in attendance at the Men's Single final on Sunday. She'll be in good company as well, watching the action from a seat between reigning champion Carlos Alvarez and the 2019 Men's Single champion, Serbian Novak Djokovic.

Also in the Family

Her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, have attended the Wimbledon twice during this year's competition. Prince William, meanwhile, is likely to be elsewhere, cheering on England in the final match of Euro 2024 as they challenge Spain in Germany.

With Wimbledon and the European Association Football Championship wrapping up on the same day, there is plenty to look forward to in sports this weekend.

Good wishes go out to future champions in both events and we hope those in attendance enjoy the spectacle.
