While we know who Bridgerton season 4 will focus on, we also know that it's going to be a good long wait before we actually get to see Benedict's journey to falling in love. So, what is a fan supposed to do until then? Luckily, we've compiled a few movies (and mini-series) that are perfect for Bridgerton fans to watch while we wait two very long years.
1. Pride and Prejudice (2005)
This is a very obvious choice, but can you really ever go wrong with a Jane Austen adaptation? I think not. To me, this is the peak adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. The cinematography is absolutely gorgeous, and it gets across the story so beautifully. That being said, watch whatever Pride and Prejudice adaptation that floats your boat. It's about enjoying the love story and everything that surrounds it. And staring at Mr. Darcy, of course.
2. Belle
Is there anything more romantic than a man who stands up for the woman he loves AND for his own beliefs? But Belle is much more than a love story. It's about ending slavery in England, equality, and standing up for who you are. Belle tells the real-life story of Dido Elizabeth Belle, the biracial daughter of a Royal Navy Captain. But, unfortunately, she was raised by her great-uncle, and the color of her skin did not give her the same privileges as others in her family. But when she meets a vicar's son, she starts a path toward not just changing her life but so many others as well. Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Sam Reid are also electric in their scenes together.
3. North and South
North and South is like if the Bridgertons lost all their fortune and had to move to an industrial town, and Daphne fell for a factory owner instead of a duke (just go with it). This mini-series is the stuff of legends. It is so completely perfect. It might be better than the book. Richard Armitage and Daniela Denby-Ashe could not have been better cast as Mr. Thorton and Margaret Hale, respectively. And oh does she hate him when she first meets him. It's delightful to watch the feelings they have for each other grow. And the backdrop of poverty, striking workers, and death gives the story a whole other emotional layer.
What to watch while we wait for Bridgerton season 4
4. Emma (2020)
This is another case of watching whatever adaptation you like best. I love the color and fun of the 2020 version with Anya Taylor-Joy, but there are quite a few good adaptations of Emma. While none of the Bridgertons are as high and mighty as Emma Woodhouse, they learn plenty of lessons as they make their paths toward love, and no one in Emma learns more lessons than Emma herself. Emma is also an incredibly fun story. While there is love in the end, and it's romantic, this is much more a story about Emma's growth as a person and as a friend. It kind of reminds me of season 3 of Bridgerton. While the love was there, it was mostly about Penelope's growth as her own person.
5. Mr. Malcolm's List
Remember in season 2 when Anthony had a list of all the things his future wife had to be? This movie takes that premise and flips it on its head. It all starts when a young woman is rejected by Mr. Malcolm and starts a plot for revenge. How? She gets her friend, Selina, to pretend to be his perfect match. The plan is that she will ultimately break his heart, but, as you can probably guess, they turn out to be perfect for each other. Freida Pinto and Sope Dirisu play so well off each other. I could watch them just banter back and forth for hours.
