The competition has officially kicked off on MasterChef. After three episodes of auditions, it’s finally time for the actual competition aspect of the series to begin. And for their first challenge, it was all about cooking dishes that you would serve at a dinner party.

When it comes to challenges, this actually felt like it should be relatively easy. Cooking for a dinner party doesn’t seem like it would be that big of a challenge for MasterChef competitors, and yet there were definitely some issues in the kitchen. In fact, it really felt like some of the competitors didn’t really know how to cook in their duos. It’s not that they were bad cooks, but rather that they didn’t know how to work together.

The entire point of this season is to see two chefs working together to make amazing dishes. But in this first competitive episode, there were definitely some struggles with that. And while there were only three duos in the bottom, those chefs truly struggled.

MasterChef kicked off the real competition in their Dynamic Duos season

Overall, this was a very solid episode of MasterChef. It was nice to see our judges, going back around the kitchen and talking to the duos. It’s one of the best parts of every episode, seeing the judges chatting with the chefs to find out what they are cooking and what their inspiration is. And it’s always interesting to hear what Gordon Ramsay has to say not only when he’s judging, but also when he’s chatting with the competitors. Of course, with Tiffany Derry joining this season, we also have a new, fresh voice among the judges. And that felt like it made a difference as well.

When it came to the bottom dishes in this first challenge, the three dynamic duos in the bottom were Darce and Courtney, Kevin and Trey, and Tonna and Cait. Sadly, these three duos simply couldn’t get it together in order to cook dishes that were a success. And this meant that one of those teams had to go home.

So who did Gordon Ramsay reveal was the first eliminated duo? Unfortunately, it was Kevin and Trey heading home after this first challenge.

This was definitely an interesting episode. And I do believe it set up this season well. It will be interesting to see how these dynamic duos work together to prove that they deserve to be called MasterChef champions.
