Buckingham Palace officially announced the birth of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank's second child.
The statement (per Town and Country) read: "A small announcement we are pleased to share. Princess Eugenie and Mr. Jack Brooksbank are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their son, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank. Ernest was born on Tuesday, 30th May, and weighed 7lbs 1oz."
Princess Eugenie took to Instagram to share some adorable snaps of the baby and explained the meaning of his name. Ernest is "named after his great great great Grandfather George, his Grandpa George and my Grandpa Ronald," Eugenie wrote.
According to the BBC, Ernest's middle name comes from his great-great-great grandfather King George V, the queen's grandfather, who also had Ernest as a middle name. George is also a tribute to Brooksbank's father George, who died in 2021.
Eugenie's first image shows a close-up of the newborn. The second reveals her firstborn, August, reaching out to touch his new brother's head. Eugenie concluded her post by saying, "Augie is loving being a big brother already."
Princess Eugenie and Brooksbank's firstborn, August "Augie" Philip Hawke Brooksbank, turned two in February. When the couple announced they were expecting their second child, Buckingham Palace released a statement that said, "August is very much looking forward to being a big brother."
Where is Ernest on the line of succession?
Ernest is the 13th great-grandchild of the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. He's also the first great-grandchild of the queen born after her death.
The newborn is now 13th in line in the British line of succession, behind his older brother and ahead of his great-uncle Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, who is now 14th in line.
Ernest will be playing with his brother and all his royal cousins in no time.
