On February 14, Netflix hosted a special Valentine's Day event to celebrate the upcoming release of Bridgerton Season 3. It was a chance to get fans excited, talk about the new season and the romance between Penelope and Colin, and so much more. And that also meant shining a spotlight on Nicola Coughlin and Luke Newton, the stars of this season.

While the love story between Penelope and Colin is in for a bit of a rocky ride, we can't wait to see how things play out for these friends turned love interests. And since we have watched both of them grow over the course of the first two seasons, it should be interesting to see how they are able to navigate the twists and turns of love.

During the special Valentine's Day event, Entertainment Tonight had the opportunity to chat with Coughlin and Newton about their characters and in particular the challenges of being intimate on screen. In particular, the conversation revolved around the fact that these two are actually friends outside of work.

What was it like for Nicola Coughlin and Luke Newton to film their Bridgerton Season 3 intimate scenes?

Considering fans have watched these two characters grow on screen, it makes sense that there might be a bit of a challenge for the actors to go from friends to romantic scenes together. And yet, it also sounds like the fact that they are real life friends helped them to navigate those moments. According to Luke Newton, the intimate scenes weren't as challenging for him because he and Nicola Coughlin are friends.

"I feel like there's always that question being asked of, is it easier to do the intimacy scenes or the more romantic scenes with someone who is your friend of four years or someone you just met for one day? I can safely say it's easier with a friend. There really is that sort of support."

And Coughlin agreed with him by explaining, "It's scary going in, but then, thankfully, we have a really good relationship, so we can talk about it, and we can laugh about it when we need to. It made it scary, but a lot better."

Honestly, it makes perfect sense that while it might seem a bit scary to have to film these intimate scenes, being friends changes the dynamic and also adds a bit of comfort to the moment. Obviously, the fact that they have had the last few years to get comfortable with each other has to make it easier to work together, even on scenes that require intimacy, romance, and something steamy.

We can't wait to see the way Bridgerton transforms the relationship between Colin and Penelope. And we also can't wait for Colin to have to do the hard work to make up for some of his bad behavior in Season 2.
