Duchess Sophie receives title once held by Queen Elizabeth
By Dallas Glenn
Congratulations are in order for Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh!
PureWow reported that Duchess Sophie was announced as the new patron of Girlguiding, a British charity that's similar to the United States' Girl Scouts. This announcement is especially notable because Queen Elizabeth was Girlguiding's previous patron from 1953 to her passing in 2022. This means Duchess Sophie is the late monarch's direct successor in the organization.
A natural transition for the longtime supporter
Girlguiding's Instagram post celebrating the news provides more context about The Duchess' latest role. The organization states that Duchess Sophie's new title allows her to continue a long tradition within the Royal Family. Before her patronage, The Duchess of Edinburgh served as the charity's president from 2003 until this announcement. Duchess Sophie was preceded as president by Princess Margaret.
The Duchess' new responsibilities in Girlguiding are yet another addition to the Royal's packed schedule. PureWow's report also mentions that Duchess Sophie opened a new winery in Canterbury, England around a week ago. Last month, The Royal Diary showed that Duchess Sophie was scheduled to appear at a reception in Windsor Castle and at least four other events throughout September.
Earlier this week, a report confirmed that Duchess Sophie spent time with King Charles and Queen Camilla at a gathering held before October's Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. We don't know how she does it, but it appears The Duchess of Edinburgh has found the secret to being everywhere at once!
With an itinerary as loaded as hers, we are sure to get more information about Duchess Sophie's philanthropic endeavors and upcoming lineup of appearances fairly soon. As soon as the next news drops, Tea and Banter will be right here with all the latest! Until then, follow us on X and Facebook to make sure you don't miss out!
