We are five episodes into Season 23 of Hell’s Kitchen, and even with all head chefs in the kitchen, things have not been smooth sailing at Foxwoods. And even before dinner service kicked off in this episode, we had one chef wanting to bow out of the competition.

Egypt has not had it easy on the blue team, as he has been nominated to go home and the team doesn’t seem to want to work with him. And being away from his family has not helped, as he is missing both of his children. So with that feeling of isolation, it made sense that before Gordon Ramsay could open up Hell’s Kitchen for the night, he was asking to bow out of the competition.

However, if there is one thing we can count on from Chef Ramsay, it is that he is not going to let a talented chef walk away from a dream without a fight. So instead of accepting Egypt’s decision to walk away from the competition, Gordon Ramsay pulls him into the back for a one-on-one conversation.

Talking to Egypt in the back, Ramsay shared that he and his wife just had a baby and he is also feeling sadness that he won’t be with his family for the next two months. This ability to connect with the people who works for him and with him is a big reason why we are fans of Gordon Ramsay. We love that he took the time to not only connect with Egypt, but also relate to him.

Chef Ramsay connects with Egypt as a parent in Hell’s Kitchen episode 5

Not only did Chef Ramsay connect with Egypt as a parent, but he also let him know that he has faith in him. He made it clear that the reason that Egypt has not gone home yet is because he believes in the other man. He sees something in him, that he believes would make him a great head chef for Hell’s Kitchen.

There is no denying that it is moments like these that make Hell’s Kitchen unique. This may be a competition, but Gordon Ramsay understands that these chefs have a life outside of the kitchen and the competition. And even when they doubt themselves, he wants them to know that there is a reason that he chose them.

What did you think of this moment? Was this a highlight for you?
