Season 23 of Hell's Kitchen is under way and Gordon Ramsay is kicking things off in a blaze of glory. For the second episode of the season, Ramsay decided to open the east coast location of Hell's Kitchen with the help of a flame thrower.

Not only did he set the pitchfork that represents the restaurant on fire, but he even had some fun by using the flame thrower to reveal the first challenge of the day. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the reward challenge was all about fire, as the chefs had to make a flambe dish. And the prize in question was the iconic punishment pass.

It was a fun way to start the competition for real, and it allowed Gordon Ramsay to see what the chefs can do under pressure. And at least during the prize challenge, it was clear that the chefs were bringing their A-game. Too bad once we got to dinner service everything fell apart.

Honestly, after how well the chefs did in the reward challenge, it was highly disappointing to see how badly they did in the dinner service. In fact, Ramsay actually kicked the entire blue team out of the kitchen before the end of service because of how poorly they were cooking.

But the red team was no better, as they struggled with their fish station. In fact, Gordon Ramsay was so disappointed in both teams that he had them both nominate two people for potential elimination. And in the end, even with the blue team getting kicked out of the kitchen early, it was actually the red team that lost a chef.

However, while things started badly for both teams on Hell's Kitchen Season 23, we are hopeful that these head chefs can turn things around and prove to Gordon Ramsay that they have what it takes to be his next head chef at the Foxwood's Resort and Casino Hell's Kitchen location.

What did you think of this week's episode of Hell's Kitchen? Were you surprised by what went down at the dinner service?
