Harlan Coben is a novel writer for thriller genres. One of his works is about to get a series adaptation based on the novel Run Away.
According to Hello Magazine, the eight-episode series will be adapted from Coben’s novel Run Away which was first published in 2019. The writer of the series is Danny Brocklehurst and the story revolves around a man named Simon Greene whose life became a mess when his eldest daughter ran away.
Since the novel holds a Goodreads rating of 4.1 for a reason, the story becomes more gripping when the protagonist finds out he has a chance to save her but she is not alone. Obviously, repercussions follow along the storyline and the dilemma in which he sets himself.
Danny expressed his excitement by saying that getting Netflix as the streaming platform is a “pleasure” as the collaboration is up for a new “twisty thriller”.
He knows that the bar has been set high already with the success of Fool Me Once but he hopes that the emotional storyline of the novel will resonate well with the audience, hopefully proving itself to be “another fantastic rise”.
Run Away is one of the 13 titles that have been produced for Netflix. Other productions enlist The Innocent, The Woods, The Stranger, Stay Close, Safe, Hold Tight, Gone for Good, and Missing You.
What is the story about?
Simon is a happy family man who loves his wife and kids. After he finds out about his daughter’s running away, he discovers a connection with drugs but resolves to bring her back home.
Netflix Tudum reported that Coben was confident to have Ellie de Lange portray Paige, Simon’s daughter because he believed that she would bring the complicated character the true colours, matching the novel’s anecdote.
“There’s a lot that she has to evoke here and emote in this character”, he said.
For Nesbitt, Coben immediately knew James would be the right choice. The creator was happy because, in his opinion, Jimmy can bring “so much range” with his natural and authentic acting.
Details about cast and filming
The cast of the show includes James Nesbitt (Missing You), playing the role of Simon, along with Ruth Jones, Minnie Driver, and Alfred Enoch.
Also, other star cast involves Ellie de Lange (the daughter, Paige), Annette Badland, Lucian Msamati, and Jon Pointing.
The filming of the series will begin around Manchester and the North West of England this month. The story would be relocated from the US to the UK.
As per Netflix Tudum, Coben is already in love with the location, which complements the story’s narrative well. He felt the sites already hold the “charm” as the north of England has “such variety”. He felt that it is a “combination of every day and eccentric about the settings there”.
