It is funny to see an actor in a role which he both loves and loathes at the same time. The same stands true for Robert Pattinson. He rose to global fame through the Twilight Saga and was seen in all five parts of the series.

However, it is interesting to note that the project which gave him unprecedented success, he still calls it “shit”? Why did he say “yes” to it in the first place then?

In an interview with GQ Spain, which Variety later translated, Robert Pattinson opened up about how strange the fascination of fans was with Twilight where he played the role of a vampire, Edward Cullen, and Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan.

The 38-year-old actor revealed that people still tell him that “Twilight ruined the vampire genre.” His response was insane as he said, “Are you still stuck on that sh**?”

He believes that since that series happened almost two decades ago, how can they still be thinking about that? He also realised that people become judgemental about things that they have not seen for themselves.

He confessed he is the “judgmental and cynical person who would just mindlessly hate it.” Pattinson agreed that he never liked the role since he thought Edward Cullen was crazy.

The Batman star elucidated that it is understandable that it is a love story but it is not as romantic as The Notebook. Twilight is strange in its own odd ways. How could Edward be with a girl that "he loves and still wants to eat her. Well not eat her, drink her blood,“ he said.

Even during the promotion of the film, he couldn’t believe himself that he was doing it. He admits that several parts of the film are romantic but still don’t make any sense.

As per People Magazine, in various interviews and press talks, Pattinson has not approved of a vampire role much. He explained that when he used to dive deeper into the story and script, he felt that Cullens were crazy. Why were they even going to school if they were 100 years old?

He knew that some women are attracted to “weirdos like Edward”. Although he was a fictional character, Pattinson said, but if you meet someone like him in real life, he would have an axe murderer in his hand probably.

Robert Pattinson couldn’t imagine how beautiful and perfect Edward Cullen was. How come he was amazing at everything, Pattinson wondered. It seemed ridiculous.

Several actors tried to play that angle of a vampire but somehow failed. It appeared that the more Pattinson hated Edward Cullen “as a manic depressive who hates himself,” the more Pattinson was able to act suitably in the series. Being a 108-year-old virgin explained a lot of issues going on with Edward Cullen, Pattinson joked.

He unveiled that despite the studio’s contrasting views about the said role, he wanted to make it as “arty as possible.” He smiled when his team made him sit down and told him to drop whatever he was doing at that time and “do the opposite,” even threatening to fire him.
