Congratulations are in order for Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi!

Hello! Magazine reports that Beatrice and Edoardo welcomed their new daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi on January 22, 2025 at 12:57 p.m. The newest addition to the Royal Family was born a bit prematurely. As a result, she was born at a "tiny" 4 pounds and 5 ounces.

Luckily, the circumstances of Athena's birth have not affected her or Beatrice's health in a negative way. A statement from Buckingham Palace states that Beatrice and Athena are doing well and recovering.

A beautiful winter surprise

As aforementioned, Athena was born prematurely. According to Hello! Magazine's reporting, the young royal was expected to arrive sometime in early spring. In December, Beatrice's doctors advised her to avoid traveling long distances. Luckily, Beatrice followed this advice, as it appears Athena's birth went smoothly despite its timing.

As expected, everyone in the Royal Family is excited to hear about the arrival of their new relative. In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Beatrice's mother, Sarah Ferguson, said that she is "incredibly blessed to be a granny once again" and is "proud of Edo, Beatrice, and the rest of [her] little 5-a-side team."

A collective statement from Buckingham Palace claimed that "Their Majesties The King and Queen and other members of The Royal Family have all been informed and are delighted with the news."

The significance of the new royal's given name

Those who are familiar with Greek mythology may have raised their eyebrows after learning about Athena's given name.

Hello! Magazine writes that Athena's name personifies wisdom, warfare, and craftwork. The name has become more popular in recent years and is even used multiple times inside the House of Windsor.

Before Princess Beatrice and Edoardo welcomed their daughter into the world, Lady Kitty Spencer, Prince William's cousin, named her daughter Athena.

Unfortunately, Beatrice's daughter was not born with an official title since Queen Elizabeth II did not bestow one upon Edoardo after he married Beatrice in 2020. However, her normal name is unlikely to keep Athena out of the spotlight when the time comes, as her siblings Wolfie and Sienna always make headlines whenever they're pictured with their parents.

Beatrice works diligently to protect Sienna from the public spotlight as much as possible. Whenever her oldest daughter is pictured on social media, the child's back is always turned so people cannot see her face. This means we're unlikely to see much of Athena during her youngest years if Beatrice and Edoardo decide to maintain the same routine.
