Since 1837, Buckingham Palace has been the official home of the reigning monarch of Britain. But it sounds like things could change when Prince William eventually ascends the throne.
According to a new report from GB News, it sounds like the future could see a new central home for the reigning monarch. It is being said that Prince William has no interest in moving to Buckingham Palace once he becomes the king. Instead, it sounds like he wants to stay in the countryside.
Instead, Prince William and Princess Catherine would rather keep their privacy in tact, even once William becomes king. That would mean avoiding being in the central London location. A source indicated that a big reason for the privacy concerns also has to do with the royal couple's children.
In speaking to The Times, it seems that the source shared, "He'll be asking, if [the children] are still young when I take on the big job, how do I maintain that privacy?" And it is being said that the couple will not be eager to move back into the city, where they will have much less privacy and distance from the public eye.
Could Prince William decide not to move to Buckingham Palace when he becomes king?
If Prince William did make the decision not to move to Buckingham Palace as king, it would definitely be a break from royal tradition. While it does make sense that he might want to continue to protect the privacy of his children, we don't really know when he will ascend the throne. Even if he is hoping to protect his children, it may not need to be a point of discussion by the time he is crowned as king.
It is entirely possible that Prince William will not be king for a number of years to come. Any by that point, it is unlikely that his children will still be living at home.
Of course, we do have to consider King Charles' health when it comes to this discussion. So there is a possibility that we see Prince William becoming king sooner than expected, and it would then raise the question of where the new king would consider his home base.
