Prince William's well known passion for the environment has produced a new media project airing on the BBC's various digital channels.
A report from The Hollywood Reporter states that Prince Williams' new series, Guardians, is a six episode project that covers the conservation efforts made by people who share the Prince of Wales' love for wildlife.
Prince William plays a significant role in the new series, as he provides the introductions for each episode and served as a co-producer the entire way.
BBC Earth, and all of its social media channels, will provide a significant platform for the project, as The Hollywood Reporter states that BBC Earth boasts over 13 million subscribers between all of its pages.
A strong debut for an important web series
Guardians is a niche series that will appeal to environmentalists and people who are passionate about the preservation of the world's wildlife. Luckily, this audience showed up for the project's first episode on BBC Earth's YouTube channel.
At the time of this article, "Rangers vs Poachers: The Fight to Save Africa's Elephants" has more than 86,000 views, 1,600 plus likes, and 121 comments. The video is still within its first week of release since it was published 5 days ago.
The Hollywood Reporter's article reports that each episode of Guardians should be 6 to 10 minutes and will offer "exclusive access and first-hand accounts of the lives of rangers and nature protectors as they urgently work to conserve biodiversity and ecosystems."
While the first episode is based in Africa, some episodes will take place in locations like the Himalayas and Brazil. The show's diversity helps highlight the various problems conservationists face as they do their part to make the world a better place.
While explaining his motivation to produce the series, Prince William said that he's had "the privilege of meeting a number of rangers throughout my life and have seen firsthand the vital work they do. Yet their stories are often overlooked or misunderstood.”
By producing the series and adding his own voice to it, Prince William hopes to educate the public and showcase environmental rangers' value to the global community.
The Prince of Wales also discussed the dangers environmental rangers face while doing their jobs. Episode 1 of Guardians focuses on a reformed poacher's efforts to atone for his past actions, and the show's future episodes are expected to highlight the prevalence of poaching and how poachers carry out their businesses.
Hopefully, Prince William's investments in the project can lead to changes that address these issues and more.
