If you look inside the trunks, there are riches abound...

Earlier this week, superstar diver Tom Daley auctioned off a pair of swimming trunks he crocheted while collaborating with Malibu and the Royal Life Saving Society UK. While you may be able find some trunks on eBay for less than 20 pounds, Daley and his collaborators were able to offload his handmade creation for £10,000! Being an Olympic Silver Medalist while representing Team Great Britain probably helped Daley drive the price up a bit. However, all of the money raised by the diver's crocheted treasure will be going to a good cause.

Daley may be one of the most stoic Olympians the United Kingdom has ever produced. As seen in the photograph above, Daley knits in the middle of competitions to help ground himself and remain focused in between rounds. During the Paris Olympics, Daley crocheted up a storm and even finished an entire sweater. Daley owns a merchandise business that utilizes his handmade products as a central theme. After seeing the prolific artisan in action outside the water, we can see why he is able to make a second career out of it!

The Daily Mail reports that Daley, Malibu, and the Royal Life Saving Society UK partnered together to raise awareness for alcohol-related deaths involving bodies of water. The £10,000 raised from Tom's trunks will be used to educate the public about responsible drinking and water safety. Hopefully, this project will lead to more ventures that improve the public's willingness to act more thoughtfully

While his work as a humanitarian is just beginning, it's sad to think about Tom Daley's end as a world class diver for the UK. Super fans of the Olympian can keep up with his business, Made With Love by Tom Daley, on its Instagram page here. There's a good chance Daley will hone his creativity to keep himself busy; so you might want to hop on the bandwagon now before it's too late!
