The Unofficial Bridgerton Coloring Book is the perfect diversion between issues of Whistledown
By Kaki Olsen
Dearest gentle...artist. Simon and Schuster has made available for the delight of many bookworms and television fans of the Bridgerton show, The Unofficial Bridgerton Coloring Book. This is part of a continuing series that includes illustrations for aficionados of Ted Lasso and those who follow The Wheel of Time.
For Queen and Country
The entire book is worth a look, but if you are somehow more entranced by the gardens than the gossip about the 'ton, there are illustrations for you. One page is dedicated to the family home of the titular characters, while another lays out a splendid picnic under the trees that we hope does not include any marauding bees.
There are also pieces in which human figures are included but not the focal point. A personal favorite displays an exquisite sitting room with whimsical art and richly-appointed furniture, a tasteful chandelier, and a roaring fire in the hearth. The still life is disrupted by the young lady engrossed in reading at the window. Another features the preparations for one of the magnificent balls that must include a centerpiece of special grandeur where two figures are deep in conversation while they are ignoring a five-tier work of art and a pyramid of glasses for liquid courage.
Ones to Watch
A particularly elaborate scene by Sara Richard features our favorite royal. Queen Charlotte peeks from behind a large fan, perhaps spotting this season's diamond, while attended by four ladies. Richard has selected pairings to feature in the book and there is remarkable tension in two-dimensional art. Lady Whistledown enthusiasts can enjoy the memory of such scenes while toiling over the correct color palette.
As with any coloring book, one of the delights is in the ability to take artistic license. Perhaps someone other than Penelope can be painted in citrus shades or seasons can be changed with attention to details of the landscapes.
This is a lovely diversion for anyone waiting eagerly for the next season to release. If you have pin money left over, you might want to treat yourself to a copy here.
