It is hard to deny that 2024 has been a difficult year for the royal family. And many engagements have been postponed or outright cancelled due to medical issues, specifically related to both King Charles and Princess Catherine dealing with cancer diagnoses. But now, the royal family is once again postponing public engagements, but for a whole different reason.

So why is the royal family saying no public appearances? According to Buckingham Palace, a number of royal engagements have been postponed until after the General Election.

A statement from the palace, which was shared on May 22, explained that, "Following the Prime Minister’s statement this afternoon calling a General Election, The Royal Family will — in accordance with normal procedure — postpone engagements that may appear to divert attention or distract from the election campaign. Their Majesties send their sincere apologies to any of those who may be affected as a result."

The royal family is stepping back from public engagements until after July 4 due to the General Election that has been called for

As US Weekly reports, the General Election will be held on July 4, which means that we are unlikely to see members of the royal family doing many public engagements until some time in July. That being said, there are still events that the royal family will be taking part in, including Trooping the Colour, which is scheduled for June 15.

Considering Trooping the Colour is the annual celebration of the monarch's birthday, this is an event we are not surprised to see still taking place, even with the upcoming General Election. This celebration is typically well-attended, with many members of the royal family taking part in the festivities.

The biggest question now is what other events will the royal family take part in, now that they are stepping back from public engagements as to appear to favor one political party over another, as well as whether or not we will see Princess Catherine at Trooping the Colour.
