The Royal Family continues showing support for Team Great Britain ahead of the Paralympics
By Kaki Olsen
If there is a theme to this summer, it is sports enthusiasm. Any Olympic and Paralympic year is one to look forward to, but sports fans have been on edge since before the European football championships and Wimbledon and they will be watching avidly until the Closing Ceremony of the Paralympics in Paris. It is delightful to find that some of these sports fans have titles such as Duke or Princess in front of their names.
Ahead of the August 28 Opening Ceremony and the first days of competition, the Royal Family social media carried messages to the athletes making Great Britain fans proud.
Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, is a natural supporter of the team. After all, his royal patronage includes the British Paralympic Association. He attended the Paralympic Games in Barcelona in 1992 and took over the patronage in 2003. His support for staff as well as athletes is appreciated, as the team includes guides, partners, and copilots.
Meanwhile, Prince William and Princess Catherine continue to fly their fan flags. It's been entertaining to see Prince William's emotional reactions to a football victory or loss and Wimbledon attendees were glad to see Princess Catherine appear at the finals amid cancer treatments.
They were among the notable figures sending their best wishes on social media before the Olympics and the tradition continued with a personal message on their public account ahead of the Paralympics.
The "W&C" sign-off denotes that the message was from the Prince and Princess of Wales directly.
According to People magazine, in addition to her enthusiasm, Kate is personally involved in another kind of support for athletes. Princess Catherine "is a patron of SportsAid, which helps emerging athletes many of whom have taken part in the Paris games, make their journey to the top."
We join the Royal Family in wishing ParalympicsGB the best of luck in the upcoming days of competition.
