The Force is with David Tennant in Young Jedi Adventures, Season 2
By Kaki Olsen
"Don't you ever change?!" These words, spoken by Donna Noble to one of David Tennant's most iconic television characters, comes to mind as Disney+ releases Young Jedi Adventures, Season 2. The Star Wars television show follows the adventures and life lessons of three Jedi students and their friends, and fans of Mr. Tennant can enjoy a timeless performance in episode 4.
A familiar face
Tennant is already known in Star Wars for his role in Ahsoka. On August 22. 2023 a series following the post-Endor story of Anakin Skywalker's former apprentice came to Disney+. Rosario Dawson played the titular character who devoted herself to finding Grand Admiral Thrawn. Along for the ride was a silver droid named Huyang who followed Jedi protocol decades after the fall of the Order because "I have my programming."
To say that Huyang is mechanically minded is not merely a reference to his being a droid. He is able to spot problems in ships and has extensive knowledge of lightsabers.
This is put into context if you consider that the droid appeared in the Clone Wars as an instructor in lightsaber construction. It is at this point that he defiantly told a pirate to not underestimate the Jedi younglings in his care because "I have instructed younglings for over a thousand generations and these are among the best I have ever seen."
This ancient droid is even rumored in the book Brotherhood to have "arrived at the Jedi Temple in a big blue box thousands of years ago." Whether the TARDIS did drop Huyang off or not, he is an essential part of Jedi history. Kevin Erdmann of Screen Rant explained just how historical he is:
"According to the Star Wars: Timelines reference book, Professor Huyang is approximately 25,000 years old, having been created by the First Jedi during the creation of the very first lightsabers."

Knowing Nubs
Given how long he's been around, it should be no surprise that he crossed paths with the likes of Kai, Lys, and Nubs. In "Nubs's Big Mistake," the Pooba youngling finds inspiration from a carving of a Pooba Jedi Knight in an old temple. He even finds the Jedi's lightsaber and gets permission from Master Yoda to come with him to the Jedi Temple to have the saber repaired.
Things get complicated when he inadvertently causes a crash and loses the lightsaber and a stabilizer to a hungry plant. Poor Nubs doesn't feel like he's living up to the legacy of the Pooba who's gone before. Even Master Yoda's sympathetic encouragement falls short.
Enter the inimitable David Tennant. As the 10th Doctor, he once said that, "You know that in nine hundred years of time and space and I've never met anybody who wasn't important before." After putting on his brainy specs (a monocle in this case) and using what suspiciously looks like a sonic screwdriver, he fixes the ancient saber and entrusts it to Nubs for the ignition.
It's a moment worthy of the man who was The Doctor and Uncle Scrooge McDuck. The rest of the adventures can be found on Disney+ as of August 14.
