Nicki Minaj, Lizzo, Dua Lupa, Charlie XCX, Ice Spice and now Sam Smith.  With the UK pop superstar announced as the final celebrity guest to join the lineup, the Barbie soundtrack is gearing up to be as big if not bigger than the actual movie set to hit the screen in late July.

While actor Ryan Gosling is already receiving rave reviews for his role as Ken in the Greta Gerwig directed film, you better believe Smith will add some flavor with their take of “Man I Am,” a song written by Smith from the perspective of Ken.

On Monday July 10, the “Unholy” singer sizzled with excitement in the following announcement made on Instagram:

“I cannot begin to express how incredibly excited I am to be a part of the soundtrack to this already iconic film.  I was invited by the incredible @iammarkronson and Greta Gerwig to write a song from the perspective of Ken for one of the scenes and we honestly had so much fun with this.  I cannot wait for you to hear what we’ve created together.”

Guess what Sam Smith, fans can’t wait to see what you came up with either as both the lyrics and the music arrangement are sure to be interesting in the least with Smith singing through the eyes of Ken.

Sam Smith sure to keep critics and fans on their heels

With the announcement, Smith not only join the pop heavy hitters already named, stars such as Billie Eillish, Karol G and Dominic Fike will also appear on what is the most-anticipated movie soundtrack in quite a while.

As for Smith, the singer has received much backlash over the past year with their outlandish performances on stage and in video.  The star has been the definition of unholy in the eyes of some viewers and critics, but expression and being themselves has become Smith’s definition of openness through their music.

That is why their vision of Ken through their upcoming song will add even more hype to both the film and soundtrack.  But, as Sam Smith continues their Gloria world tour, the Barbie soundtrack announcement is not the only news buzzing around the sultry singer.  Ealier in June, Smith collaborated with the iconic Madonna in a song called “Vulgar.”  Smith also teased an upbeat dance tune with Calvin Harris titled “Desire.”

Sounds like the summer of Sam is about to heat up to an even higher temperature.
