Fashion designer Sarah Burton has been named as the new Creative Director for Givenchy as of September 9, following 26 years with Alexander McQueen (the news comes a full year after Burton announced she was leaving McQueen). The announcement came during New York Fashion Week, with news that her first show for Givenchy will take place in March 2025.

Burton is a designer that many royal fashion watchers will likely be familiar with. In particular, she was the designer for Princess Catherine's wedding dress, as well as the dress she wore for the reception. Interestingly enough, she steps into the role that was once held by Claire Waight Keller, who actually designed the Duchess of Sussex's wedding dress for her marriage to Prince Harry. (Keller stepped down from the role over three years ago and has since moved on to be the Creative Director for the Japanese brand, Uniqlo.)

All things considered, there is no denying that Sarah Burton has some of the most iconic designs under her belt, just in relation to the royal family. And the dresses she designed for Princess Catherine when she married Prince William are certainly some that have stood the test of time.

Of course, the Princess of Wales is not the only big name that Sarah Burton has designed for under the Alexander McQueen label, as she has also designed for Beyonce in the past, and she even designed the dress that Pippa Middleton wore as the maid of honor for her sister.

Sarah Burton is taking over as the Creative Director for Givenchy

Givenchy is an iconic brand with a long history of its own. And it seems fitting to have their newest Creative Director be someone with their own impressive history in the fashion world.

According to V Magazine, in a statement made by Burton, she shared her thoughts on this new endeavor and what she hopes to bring to the table.

"It is a great honour to be joining the beautiful house of Givenchy, it is a jewel. I am so excited to be able to write the next chapter in the story of this iconic house and to bring to Givenchy my own vision, sensibility and beliefs."

And Sarah Burton was not the only one to share their thoughts on this appointment, as a statement was also made by the CEO of Givenchy, Alessandro Valenti. In his statement he touched on their hopes for the future with Burton in this new role.

"The arrival of Sarah Burton as head of our creative design is a very exciting moment for Givenchy. Her remarkable career path and creative vision have already won her a vast fan base, and we are certain that under her direction, Givenchy will continue to innovate and captivate an extensive audience across the world stage. I eagerly anticipate the new creative energy Sarah will bring as she works alongside our outstanding teams in our exceptional workshops, and we embark on this new chapter in the history of Givenchy."

We can't wait to see what comes next for Givenchy, as well as Sarah Burton.
