Prince Harry is set to get a massive inheritance once he turns 40 on September 15
On September 15, Prince Harry turns 40 and with this milestone birthday comes a rather large inheritance. And it sounds like this gift is even more than Prince William received for his 40th birthday.
According to the New York Post, when Prince Harry celebrates his 40th birthday, he will get a gift from his late great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth I. It seems that the Queen Mother left approximately $90 million in trust for her family. Of course, as with a lot of inheritances (especially ones involving a lot of money), there were stipulations attached to the gifts to the family.
In terms of the stipulations revolving around Prince Harry, it seems that he had to be 40 years-old before he received a cash payment of around $8.5 million. This is said to be more than what Prince William will receive, although the future king is said to be funded by the Duchy of Cornwall. "As the heir to the throne, William will in turn benefit from the tax-exempt Duchy of Cornwall — a private estate that funds his public, charitable and private activities."
Prince Harry is set to inherit over $8 million from his late great-grandmother when he turns 40
It is being said that because Prince William is already funded by the Duchy of Cornwall, and has access to different funds as a future king, it is Prince Harry who will get more than half of the "£14 million allocated for the brothers," that was left to them by Queen Elizabeth I.
In a lot of ways, it makes sense that Prince Harry would get a larger chunk of the inheritance than his brother since he does not (and did not at the time the inheritance was established) have the same access to the "royal coffers." While the Duke of Sussex might have received a stipend as a working royal, it would not been as much as his brother received. And of course, now that he is not a working royal, the inheritance is a bit more of a bonus.
Although the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are already estimated to have a net worth of around $60 million thanks to a number of projects that they have worked on since stepping away from their roles as part of the royal family, this money is likely a nice little boost. Of course, this news is likely to cause plenty of drama on social media, and we expect to see a lot of people trashing the Sussexes for accepting the inheritance, even though it has been waiting in the wings for years.
What do you think of this inheritance news? Are you surprised by how much Prince Harry will be inheriting from his great-grandmother?
