Have you ever wondered how much money members of the royal family make for their work? Considering some members of the family, such as King Charles, Prince William and more are not really holding down what one might call a normal job, that doesn't mean that they don't pull in a pay check.

Generally speaking, there are grants that help to fund the royal lifestyle, as well as something akin to an allowance for the sovereign of the state. In this case, King Charles is paid out via the Duchy of Lancaster from what is known as the Privy Purse. Prince William also receives money from the Duchy of Cornwall, which means that at least two of the senior royals are paid directly from estates.

But what all does this mean and how much do different members of the royal family actually get paid? Thanks to US Weekly, we have an idea of how much income the king and his heir make per year, as well as a few other members of the royal family.

How much does the royal family make in a year?

As the head of the family, it makes sense to start with King Charles who is said to be worth an estimated $750 million. In terms of his annual pay, it seems that the king is reportedly pulling in approximately $25 million per year.

Next in line for the the throne is Prince William. And while we have previously talked about how much the Prince and Princess of Wales are said to make in a year, US Weekly has shared that the family's annual salary is said to be around $30 million, at least based on what they made for last year.

Princess Anne has been on the royal payroll since 1971. And considered she has been called the hardest working royal in the family thanks to the fact that she has been known to do upwards of 500 engagements in a single year, it makes sense that over her time in service to the crown she has reportedly earned $21.1 million since being added to the royal payroll. (If she has in fact done 500 royal engagements every year since 1971 that would put her at 26,500 engagements in her lifetime to date.) That being said, there is no firm number on how much the Princess Royal makes for her work, although based on how much it said she made and how many years she has worked, we can deduce that she is vastly underpaid in comparison to other members of the family at approximately $398,000 per year.

Another working royal who gets paid by the crown is Prince Edward and his wife, Duchess Sophie. Apparently Prince Edward was added to the royal payroll in 1982 and since then he (and in turn his wife) have been paid approximately $8,509,150. Combined these two have done nearly 12,000 royal appearances in service to the crown. For Prince Edward, his yearly pay breaks down to approximately $202,598.

Honestly, the royal family is not only worth a lot of money, but they also seem to make a lot of money. And if these numbers are to be believed, it definitely seems to pay to be the king and his heir.

What do you think about these numbers? Do you think these are accurate? And if so, what are your thoughts about how much different senior royals are making every year?
