If there is one thing from summer of 2023 that we were most excited for, it would have to have been the second season of Good Omens on Amazon Prime. Considering the first season, which was meant to be a limited series, was released in 2019, it was a longtime coming for those of us who had been eagerly anticipating what would come next.
Unsurprisingly, the second season was just as loved as the first. And fans of the series took to social media to ask about a third season pretty quickly. Of course, at the time we were all in the midst of both the writers' strike and the actors strike. And that meant that not only could the series not be promoted by anyone but fans, but we couldn't learn anything about its future either.
However, we were all lucky enough to hear from creator Neil Gaiman over the summer thanks to social media. And while he could not talk about Good Omens the series, he did say that no matter what happened in the future, we would learn what would happen in a third season. This meant that even if Amazon Prime didn't give the series a third season, he would tell us what would have happened.
Good Omens will be back for a third and final season on Amazon Prime
But now we don't have to worry about these things because Amazon Prime has renewed Good Omens for a third and final season according to Variety.
In a statement from Gaiman to go along with the news, he shared that he is "so happy finally to be able to finish the story Terry and I plotted in 1989 and in 2006."
"Terry was determined that if we made ‘Good Omens’ for television, we could take the story all the way to the end. Season One was all about averting Armageddon, dangerous prophecies, and the End of the World. Season Two was sweet and gentle, although it may have ended less joyfully than a certain Angel and Demon might have hoped. Now in Season Three, we will deal once more with the end of the world. The plans for Armageddon are going wrong. Only Crowley and Aziraphale working together can hope to put it right. And they aren’t talking."- Neil Gaiman
We are pretty excited about this news and what it means for the world of Good Omens. Not only does this mean that we might finally get too see how Crowley and Aziraphale's story ends, but we love the fact that this also means more of David Tennant and Michael Sheen working together. Sheen and Tennant are brilliant together and they truly seem to embody the angel and demon that they portray.
As fans of Good Omens and Neil Gaiman, we can't wait for the third season. And while we may not know when it will arrive on our screens, we do hope it takes less than four years to give us the end of the story.
Who else is excited by the news that Good Omens has been renewed for a third season? What do you hope to see in this final adventure?
