Gillian Anderson has been cast in a new Western series on Netflix
It looks like Gillian Anderson is sticking with Netflix for her next role. The star of the young adult comedy, Sex Education on Netflix, has now been cast in an all new series for the streamer.
And while she may have played a sex therapist in Sex Education, things are taking a much different direction in her next project. According to Collider, Anderson has been cast in a new Western series called The Abandons.
Set in the 1850s in Oregon, the series is a definite departure from some of her previous roles, including her Sex Education role. In the series, we will follow a "group of diverse, outlier families." These are the people who aren't necessarily considered an integrated part of society, as they work together to hold onto their land and build their families in this new terrain.

So who will Gillian Anderson be playing in the new series?
Apparently, the actress will be taking on the role of a woman named Constance who is the matriarch of a family that has wealth and prestige. Not only does she value power and wealth, but she is proving that even in a time when women had to fight to be heard and taken seriously, she has what it takes to keep her family together. At the same time, this is a woman who has a strong handle on money and how to increase her wealth.
Anderson joins a cast that already includes Lena Headey, which means we can expect to see some very strong female performances from this Western.
We can't wait to see how both Anderson and Headey bring this story to life on Netflix. And of course, we are definitely curious to see who else ends up getting cast for the series.
What do you think of this casting news? Are you surprised to see Gillian Anderson joining a Western series?
