Exciting news related to Sarah, Duchess of York has come in from Deadline and BritBox!

According to reports, Natalie Dormer has been selected to portray Sarah Ferguson in Left Field's new project, The Lady. The royal drama will depict the rise and fall of Jane Andrews, a former aide who worked for the Royal Family and was convicted of murdering her boyfriend back in 2001.

In a press release, BritBox announced that Mia McKenna-Bruce will take on the task of portraying Andrews. The BAFTA-winning actress first broke out in the 2023 coming-of-age story, How to Have Sex.

Ed Speleers was cast to play Thomas Cressman, the businessman who kept a romantic relationship with Jane Andrews before he met his unfortunate demise.

Philip Glenister, Claire Skinner, Laura Aikman, Ophelia Lovibond, Mark Stanley, Daniel Ryan and Sean Teale are some of the other names already confirmed to be in the Left Bank Pictures production.

So, what is The Lady?

BritBox announced that The Lady will be a four-part drama written by Debbie O'Mailey and produced by Left Bank Pictures. Fans of the latter may remember the production company's work on Netflix's The Crown, an original drama chronicling Queen Elizabeth II's life from the 1940s to the modern day.

The Lady will be just as comprehensive in its own coverage of Jane Andrews' life, career, and tragic fall from grace. The new project isn't exactly a biopic, but it will show how Andrews ascended from her working class background to a job serving the House of Windsor.

For those who don't know, Andrews' opportunity came after she saw an advertisement promoting a job vacancy in a magazine. As one can imagine, her family was shocked when she got the job and ended up working for the royals for nine years.

Unfortunately, Andrews lost her job after her ninth year of service and emotionally spiraled shortly thereafter. The fragility of Andrews' emotional state manifested itself in the worst way during her relationship with Thomas Cressman.

An especially interesting aspect of this story is the opinion of the real Jane Andrews herself, as she was released from jail six years ago.

If you're a big true crime buff, The Lady should be right up your alley! The short series is set to air on BritBox in the United States and Canada and ITV1, ITVX, STV, and STV Player in the United Kingdom.

Sony Pictures Television will distribute The Lady internationally for other audiences.
