The fifth episode of Kitchen Nightmares saw Gordon Ramsay taking on the challenge of "3 Southern Girls." This restaurant is struggling. After the owner's son nearly died in a car accident and the restaurant was shut down for a solid month, it makes sense that it would be hard to regain their footing. And this is why they need Chef Ramsay's help.
It can be impossible to recover from an unexpected shut down of any kind, but to also nearly lose a child, that has to make everything so much harder. So having Gordon Ramsay show up to help has to make a difference.
The thing about this episode is that it is hard to focus on the drama, because we know what caused some of the issues. Life is fragile and this family came face to face with that reality. So even when we saw problems with the food or the kitchen, it is hard to fault them for it because of what came before.

That being said, I have to point out that there were some great Gordon Ramsay moments in this episode. Not only did we get to see him setting up a table out of the trunk of his vehicle so that he could basically eat on the sidewalk (the restaurant was full), but we also saw him get taken to task in the kitchen while making mac and cheese.
Honestly, this was one of those Kitchen Nightmares episode that was less of a nightmare and more of a challenge. Not only did we have a restaurant owner struggling with control after everything she has faced, but she also had these moments where she made it clear that she really liked Gordon Ramsay (even if she did try to get him to hand over a pot of mac and cheese that she didn't think he was doing right).
We were thrilled to hear Chef Ramsay doing the update on the restaurant at the end and letting everyone know that things are going better with 3 Southern Girls. Hopefully once the Super Bowl actually arrives in town, they find true success with all of the changes that were made.
