Now that the Super Bowl has been played, and the newest champions have been crowned, Kitchen Nightmares has left New Orleans. And in its first episode outside of New Orleans, it was all about a restaurant run by a mother daughter duo.
Gordon Ramsay headed to Texas in episode six, “Kings Blu Jam.” And while it seems like he was successful in helping this restaurant, what wasn’t so successful was the actual episode itself.
Unfortunately, this episode felt rather weak in terms of dealing with the issues. I think the problem was that it didn’t feel like the problems in the restaurant were actually solved. It seems like they were based on the update at the end of the episode from Gordon Ramsay, but during the episode it didn’t feel like we got any true resolution.
I’m not sure what happened to Kitchen Nightmares, but it hasn’t been nearly as entertaining this season. Yes, we want to see him saving restaurants, and that seems to be what he has done for the most part. Although, we did have one restaurant so far this season that shuttered its doors after he left. However, this season doesn’t feel as complete. It feels like we’re not getting enough of the meat of the story.
Some of these owners have serious issues in their business and yet it almost feels like the quickest solution and a nice little bow on top. I am a fan of Gordon Ramsay and his stuff. That being said, this season of Kitchen Nightmares has not been as strong as years past. And that could be because of the restaurants that he’s trying to help, the personalities that he is interacting with, or maybe we just need a change.

No matter what it is that is making this season feel off, this episode was a bit of a mess. We literally had someone sick outside after eating one of the dishes on the menu, and it was like it was brushed aside.
Yes, Chef Ramsay acknowledged this person and went out to see them as they were vomiting. But it shouldn’t just be him acknowledging this problem. The owner of the restaurant should be bending over backwards to fix this issue. They should be acknowledging that there is a problem and actively working to fix it. But it didn’t feel like that’s what we got. Did it get fixed? Yes. But there was a disconnect in this episode that is nearly impossible to explain.
Honestly, this could just be a me problem. However, I was not impressed with this episode of the season, and I can only hope that the next episode better tells the story that it needs to, for a well rounded look at how Gordon Ramsay is helping to save these restaurants.
