If there’s one thing we can count on during an episode of Kitchen Nightmares, it will be Gordon Ramsay finding something in the kitchen that he is not happy with. And that’s exactly what happened in the third episode of this season, “Voleos.” We once again got Chef Ramsay walking into a kitchen and finding something he didn’t like.

However, that’s not the overall purpose of this episode. It felt like this was a less confrontational episode than some. And you could tell that Gordon Ramsay wanted to help this family. But, as with many of these nightmares, there were enough issues in the kitchen that it wasn’t necessarily an easy fix.

In “Voleos” we had a stubborn owner, who was very set in his ways. But a lot of that stubbornness had to do with the fact that he and his family, as well as their business were hit hard by 2021’s Hurricane Ida. And the hurricane really made him have to change his business and find ways to survive. His efforts to keep his restaurant going left him with issues that needed to be addressed. And that’s why Chef Ramsay was there.

But what was it that Gordon Ramsay didn’t like in the kitchen? It was all of the frozen food in the freezer. Even though he was repeatedly told that he was getting fresh fish and fresh food, it turns out that about 90% of what was being cooked up and served was coming out of the freezer.

Honestly, this was not that surprising. It seems to be a relatively common thing on Kitchen Nightmares. For some reason, a lot of of these restaurants opt for putting things in the freezer. And while we do understand it to a point, how can you tell your customers that you’re serving them fresh fish or fresh food when it’s from the freezer? And it certainly seems like that is a question that Chef Ramsay has as well.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Gordon Ramsay was actually able to make a difference in this restaurant. It felt like he actually had people who wanted to change. And I think their determination to succeed was something that allowed even a stubborn restaurant owner to understand that you sometimes have to let the other people in your life help you.

I think what also made this episode so good was the fact that it didn’t feel like Chef Ramsay was having to fight to be heard. Yes, we had an owner who was a bit more stuck in his ways, but he clearly knew that he needed help. So he was willing to listen and learn. And we don’t always see that on this show.

This was a solid episode, even if it didn’t have nearly as much drama as some of them. And that’s okay. We don’t always need a drama filled, screaming match of an episode. What we need is for restaurants that are struggling to realize that Gordon Ramsay is here to help.

We definitely got that in this episode of Kitchen Nightmares. And this definitely felt like a bit of a palate cleanser compared to the first two episodes and perhaps even what we are about to see in episode four. Then again, we can’t wait for the drama.
