To end the month of May, King Charles and Queen Camilla have visited Canada as part of a royal tour of the sovereign nation. And as part of that visit, the king helped to open the 45th session of Parliament in the country.
In order to help open this session of Parliament, King Charles gave a historic speech that lasted 26 minutes. And in that speech, he spoke of his immense appreciation and admiration for the country. One reason why this was such a historic speech and moment was because King Charles is only the second monarch to actually take part in a state opening for Canada, as his late mother was of course the first.
What was also interesting about this particular speech is the fact that we actually got to hear a bit of a French accent from the king. Unlike the opening of Parliament in Britain, there is not quite as much pageantry in play, as there are no robes and crowns on display. Instead, the king wore a navy blue suit with medals on display. At his side Queen Camilla wore a navy blue dress of her own with a matching hat.
King Charles helped open a new session of Parliament in Canada
I do find it interesting that as Hello Magazine reports, this speech was actually written by the government for the king to read. And yet, it truly does feel like these words came from the King‘s heart.
When King Charles and Queen Camilla first arrived in Canada, they received full military honors. And their second day in the country gave them just as much pageantry as the first, as they received a royal escort to the Canadian Senate.
It is clear that this visit is as much about bringing King Charles to Canada, as it is showcasing the very best that the country has to offer. And there is no denying that they have gone all out to welcome the king and queen to North America.
