The 21st edition of the Glasgow Film Festival (GFF) will take place from February 26 to March 9. The 12-day gala would showcase 92 premieres from across the world including the UK (67) and Scottish premieres (12). 39 countries’ work will be emblazoned, starting from 26 February.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, the opening movie for February 26 will be the survival thriller Tornado, which is a sophomore piece of art from Scottish director John Maclean. The movie is set to be released across the UK by Lionsgate on May 23.
The closing of the festival is meant to take place with the premiere of Make It to Munich. It will be presented by Scottish documentary-maker Martyn Robertson and is known to be shot in the Euro 2024 soccer tournament.
The organizers of the festivals revealed that UK premieres will include The Return starring Ralph Fiennes and Juliet Binoche along with Jessica Lange and Ed Harris in a play adaptation by the name Long Day’s Journey into Night.
The Scottish premieres will include Tilda Swinton and George Mackay in a musical satire The End alongside a Scottish folk horror Harvest.
Before its UK release in the latter half of this year, the first episode of the new Amazon Studios-produced thriller Fear would be premiered at the fest. It is shot in Glasgow’s West End and the star cast comprises Martin Compston, Solly McLeod and James Cosmo.

Also, the festival holds a unique importance since this will be the final festival for the GFF’s chief executive and director, Allison Gardner, who had been with the brand for more than three decades.
Gardner already was excited about the upcoming fest since she was happy that GFF has been able to pull off a “brilliant programme” with a “breadth of films” that offers something for everyone.
James McAvoy will join “In Conversation” at the event. The conversation would highlight his career achievements, including the roles in The Last King of Scotland, the X-men franchise, The Chronicles of Narnia and some acclaimed thrillers like Split, Glass and Speak No Evil. He will also be answering questions from the general public.
