Gordon Ramsay’s Secret Service on Fox has arrived. And after premiering on May 21, we now know what exactly this show is going to give us as this first season gets underway. But after watching the season premiere, we have just one question: was it worth watching?

First of all, we have to point out that Secret Service gives us an interesting premise. The show is very much a cross between Gordon Ramsay‘s Kitchen Nightmares and Bar Rescue with John Taffer.

Not only do we have Gordon Ramsay stepping in to help save a restaurant that is failing, but we also have him doing it undercover. He sends in secret diners, who know what they’re talking about when it comes to cooking and restaurants to see what’s happening when Ramsay is not there. Not only that, but he has a chance to access the restaurant when no one else is there, seeing what’s really happening and what things really look like behind the scenes.

Gordon Ramsay’s Secret Service takes Kitchen Nightmares to the next level

And in the very first episode, we also see exactly how Chef Ramsay is going to utilize the insider that he has, as well as all those cameras. That insider never reveals themself until the very end, after things have been rectified. And I think that’s smart because it allows the restaurant to see what a difference change can make.

It should be interesting though to see how the season, and the series, progresses because there is no guarantee that the insider won’t face backlash in the future. At least in this case, it was a family owned and operated restaurant. So the insider was a family member who wanted to make a change for the better. I do think that makes a difference.

Overall, it is a very clear that Gordon Ramsay is taking what he does on Kitchen Nightmares and elevating it. He is finding the real problems in a restaurant and not just the surface issues. And it just seems to work on Secret Service. At the very least, it works based on this very first episode. Of course, we will have to see what happens as the first season progresses, but for now this definitely looks like a great addition to the Fox reality cooking lineup.
