Concert residencies are a new trend in modern music. They are one of the most lucrative ways for an artist to showcase their talent. It has now become a billion-dollar industry, and almost every artist is pursuing it these days.

Adele is among the music artists who have earned millions from residencies, despite the concept dating back to the 1970s. Her residencies in Munich and Las Vegas were a blast and are considered among the most successful ones between 2023 and 2024.

It is remarkable how Adele was able to earn such income without releasing any music albums. Her last album was released in 2021, but this is not the end.

She was able to earn a colossal amount of figures, easily breaking records barring any music album for the last four years.

What are concert residencies?

As mentioned earlier, the earliest of the music residencies was during the times of Elvis when he performed in Las Vegas in the 1970s. The city gained the fame of being a residency capital of the world, enticing several other artists to follow the same pattern thereafter.

The residency pattern was not only restricted to rock n roll; it expanded further to a wide variety of genres. After the 2010s, the artists embraced the format for an immersive experience, for both the artists as well as the fans.

It became more special when residencies started taking the help of visuals. For instance, Robbie William’s residency in 2019 was performed at Encore Theatre in Las Vegas, which was a blend of high-tech visuals and a cinematic experience for the fans. He made an average of $2.71 million per night.

Adele has predominantly been added to the list, smoothly becoming a titanically successful music diva. She is often seen with her perfectly manicured nails, with a gigantic spectacle of concert residency that she showcased recently in Munich and Las Vegas.

Adele’s earnings from Las Vegas and Munich residencies

Adele is always known for her peculiar oxymoron nature. Why? With her beautifully manicured nails, she flaunts her immaculate talent by flicking away something sappy that she just said.

Her aura of unapproachability but being strongly connected with her fans on the stage is another display of the said phenomenon. Yet, her stage is full of elegance and drama, and an unmissable explosion of her vocals, creating the enigmatic experience for her fans.

It is for this reason that “Weekend with Adele” at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas was a musical detonation. It ended in November 2024 after two years of continuous sold-out performances.

Her performances at Munich shows were also a banger, named “Adele in Munich,” as one of the 10-night concert series made it to the official Guinness World Record.

Ten open-air concerts were fully booked by a crazy number of fans, around 730,000 from every corner of the world. It was the highest attendance of any residency ever outside Las Vegas.

Another World Record that she now holds is having “the largest continuous outdoor LED screen” for a concert residency, verified by the staff of the Guinness World Records

Her remarkable presence on the stage with such grandeur in her latest residency was an honour in itself, cited Joanne Brent, the official adjudicator of the Guinness World Records.

There remains no wonder that she is now considered “officially amazing” as her residency managed to instil a ‘wow’ factor that perfectly complemented her phenomenal voice.

Based on The Mirror and Daily Mail revelations, a single show yield was approximately $1.75 million, undoubtedly giving it the prominence of one of the most bankable residencies on record.

With that, Adele’s fortune further skyrocketed to £170 million ($213.4 million) the previous year. It was an increase from £165 million ($207.1 million) based on the Sunday Times Rich List where she ranked 9th on the 35 under 35 rich list.

Not only from her residencies, she generates sizable income from record sales, royalties and publishing deals. Her income has remained steady throughout the year without any album release recently.

Broader impact of residencies on Adele’s career

Adele has released the details of her accounts with impressive profits from her other businesses.

  • Melted Stone Publishing earned £13.5 million ($16.9 million)
  • Melted Stone Ltd. earned £6 million ($7.5 million)
  • A.Adkins Touring Ltd. earned £42,000 ($52,600)

The combined earnings were £7.7 million ($9.6 million), which showed a greater breadth and sustainability of her worth, even if it was about her other businesses.

In 2024 she announced a break from performing, which is likely to be as long as several years off from the stage. She broke the emotional news in Munich, Germany in her final concert.

She was teary-eyed when she shared that she might not see her fans in such a large
assemblage for “an incredibly long time” as she will keep them dear in her heart during her long break.

She expressed explicitly her emotional connection with her fans by saying that she would never stop “fantasising about these shows” or any shows that she had performed in the last three years.

Nonetheless, she did not stop strengthening her brand, which meant that her residencies solidified Adele’s reputation as a live performer. These performances provided opportunities for the new and ever-growing music audience, no matter what part of the world they belong to.

It gave her great backing to empower herself and maintain relevance, despite the changing demographics and generation gaps.

Apart from that, she has made a cultural impact despite appearing old-fashioned in her own ways, yet unequivocally relevant to the new generation. She is an emotional artist, creating drama and marvel of sound and screen, setting a magnificent example.
