There are many facets to the relationship between Harry and Meghan and the Royal Family they left behind. The parents of Archie and Lillibet chose to first step back from their duties as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, then broke altogether from the royal lifestyle. They now make their home in Montecito, California, but a recent scene from a Netflix program has highlighted the ties to the old life.
What surname is the family using?
Duchess Meghan recently released With Love, Meghan on the popular streaming service Netflix. Asported by Us Weekly, Meghan took a moment in one episode to correct a misconception. She opened up about the fact that she "Grew up with a lot of fast food and TV tray meals" as a result of being a "latchkey kid." After she shared some of her favorite fast foods, friend Mindy Kaling "began marveling that 'Meghan Markle loves Jack-in-the-Box.'"
In a similar way to frequent posts about Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle is not always referred to by the correct name. Mindy Kaling, a friend of the family, recently said that Meghan is a down-to-earth person who knows a lot of fun tricks to make entertaining and cooking easier." It's no wonder that Meghan felt comfortable speaking about her identity with a close friend. Markle clarified her last name:
"It's funny you keep saying Markle...You know it's Sussex now. You have kids and you go, I share my name with my children. I didn't know how meaningful it would be to me but it just means so much to go, this is our family name. Our little family now."Meghan Sussex
Kaling responded, "Now I know and I love it." The mention of the surname is less of a surprise to those who remember a change from last July. In a break with Royal tradition, Prince Archie and Princess Lillibet began going by the last name of Sussex instead of Mountbatten-Windsor. The dukedom of Sussex was given to Prince Harry in 2018 before the couple's wedding. Meghan refers to the moniker as "part of our love story."
With Love, Meghan can be found steaming on Netflix and is an eight-part series. The service advertises that "Meghan, Duchess of Sussex offers cooking, gardening and hosting advice in this charming lifestyle series filmed at a beautiful California estate."
