Having been released in 2017, all of the three seasons of Riviera are now added to Netflix. Without wasting any time, the show has smoothly made it to the giant’s Top 10 list, eight years after its debut.
The British-Irish thriller has received its presence on the streaming platform this week since the fans are oohed and aahed over the glamour, infused with the thrilling elements of the entire story.
The show's writers are Neil Jordan and John Banville, and the director is Phillip Kadelbach. It is surprising that Jordan disowned the show soon after its release.
The story revolves around Georgina Clios (played by Julia Stiles) an American art curator who is entangled in a web of deception, lies and secrets after the puzzling death of her billionaire banker husband, Constantine (played by Anthony LaPaglia).
The story is set in the French Riviera from 2017-2020. The extravagant picturisation was only possible because of the carefully selected locations, such as the eye-catching room with a pool at the Grand-Hotel du Cap Ferrat.
And did you notice the zigzag stairs at Menton’s Place de la Conception? This is where Georgina and Robert Carver hunt down the blind kiosk worker linked with the creation of a fake art persona.
Despite receiving high praise from the audience, especially after getting first aired on Sky Atlantic, Riviera drew 2.3 million viewers per episode. The Guardian called it “unmissable” and The Irish Independent accredited it “precision-tooled entertainment”.
Who could have missed the cast members who are meant to grab attention? Alongside Julia Stiles, Riviera has Poppy Delevingne, Iwan Rheon, Jack Fox, Will Arnett, and Rupert Graves. Their own individual presence makes the story more gripping at each step, and this is where the credit goes to their powerful acting skills.
Still, it is perplexing to see a 63 per cent score on Rotten Tomatoes and a rating of 6.7 on IMDb.
Shooing away all the criticism, Riviera still managed to claim the seventh spot on Netflix, right after its landing. One of the most conspicuous reasons for its prominence is its fast-paced storytelling and lavish background setting.
Netizens are unstoppable when it comes to lauding the show. One of them said, “Riviera is pure escapism!”. Another mentioned that it has everything, from drama to suspense and luxury.
The show itself is a depiction that anything bad can happen at pretty places and with beautiful people. Evil does not have any exceptions.
Since Netflix has all of its three seasons available now, you can watch it for the first time or twice, if you like, to revisit the beautiful sceneries, which are sure to rejuvenate your senses.
